How to create an entrance area when you don't have a hallway?
If your home's front door opens directly into the living area, the following architect's ideas may inspire you to rethink this area when designing your small home.
The 35m2 Barn house is usually chosen for recreational plots and is intended for weekend trips out of town or summer and winter vacations. For residents of larger properties, packing all the necessary functions into the interior of a 35 can be quite a problem. Today we will deal with the entrance area to a modern barn -style house, which in the project did not have a hallway and instead invited you to enter directly into the kitchen and living room. The investor wondered what she would do with her coat, wellies, dog leash and child's toys. Below are examples of our solutions, which we hope will inspire you.
Here is the project planof the Modern Barn, Marysia House 07
1. Use the furniture
In this project of a Modern Barn Style House, a wall over 4 meters long has been used in its entirety and is a built-in structure, starting with two wardrobes, then passing into a kitchen with a built-in fridge, dishwasher, sink and hob. Contrary to appearances, this is a sufficient length of the built-in structure to accommodate everything you need. There is even room in the wardrobe for a washing machine, for which there was no space in the bathroom. Thanks to this, you can take off your coats and jackets right at the entrance to the house and put your wellies on the lowest shelf in the wardrobe.
2. Openwork wall
An idea that would be useful in the design of a small modern barn and appeared in the initial version of the design is to insert an openwork wooden wall, which we used on the mezzanine (photo above). This is a simple and uncomplicated solution that, on the one hand, arranges the entrance to the house and can be used to hang hooks for jackets. On the other hand, it provides a screen from the living room and sofa, but does not take away the light. The wooden openwork wall is easy to arrange: it can be painted any color from the palette or left in a neutral shade of the walls.
3. Hangers/hooks for the hallway
The third proposal is a simple solution, which involves using the space to the left of the entrance to place a flat hanger for keys, lanyards or an umbrella.
Examples of interesting hangers/hooks that do not take up space, can also be mounted on an openwork wooden panel

A modern barn -style house with an area of 35 sq m is always a challenge for the designer. But despite its compact size, thanks to careful consideration of individual zones, it can be really comfortable, functional and ergonomic.
